IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Hazel
Elliott
July 7, 1929 – February 18, 2024
Hazel Baldwin Elliott, 94, passed away peacefully Sunday morning, February 18, 2024, at Treasure Coast Hospice House with her children by her side.
Born in Waleska, GA, Hazel lived her earlier years in Georgia, graduating Cartersville high school and marrying Kenneth Elliott Sr. In 1963, Hazel and Kenneth moved their family of five children to Stuart, FL to enjoy the bounty of a small coastal town surrounded by a river and close to the sea.
Hazel will be remembered for her love of family, friends, backyard environs and wild places. A woman of great determination and presence, she also had a smile for all she met and a warm, welcoming spirit. Her delicious southern cooking will also never be forgotten. She served the Stuart community as a bank teller for First National Bank of Stuart (now Seacoast Bank) for over twenty-five years and as a member of First Baptist Church of Stuart since 1963.
Hazel's old Florida home is surrounded by tropical fruit trees and a riot of sub-tropical foliage including over a hundred orchid plants. Enthusiasm for birding, shelling, and paddling led to countless hours of being out and about on the Treasure Coast. Her love of nature encompassed everything close to home, including squirrels, and adventurous travel to far-away places with many memorable visits to national
parks, preserves, seashores and wildlife refuges.
Hazel is survived by her son Kenneth Elliott Jr. and his wife Madeleine Shinn, daughter Cynthia Goudeau, daughter Rebecca Elliott, four granddaughters; Olivia Connors, Lillian Shinn Pennypacker, Krysta Yellin and Brenna Yellin, one great grandson; Nathan Connors, one great granddaughter; Bridgette Johnson, one great, great granddaughter; Leylani Connors and a large extended family of nieces and nephews.
She is predeceased by her husband Kenneth Elliott Sr., son Gary Elliott, daughter Amelita (Lita) Yellin, son-in-law Jim Goudeau, grandson Christopher Shinn Pennypacker, sister Dess Bruce and her husband Sam Bruce.
A funeral service will be held on Monday morning, February 26, 2024 at the Forest Hills Palm City Funeral Home Chapel. Family and friends will be received from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. and the funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. followed by a graveside ceremony. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Hazel's honor may be made to Treasure Coast Hospice at https://www.treasurehealth.org/ or Treasure Coast Wildlife Hospital at https://www.tcwild.org/
