Obituary of Helen Ivany

Helen L. Ivany, 83, passed away on February 28, 2010, in her home in La Vergne, Tennessee. Born in St. Johns, Newfoundland, Canada, her and her beloved husband Ralph (deceased) of 59 years moved to New York in 1948 and settled in Staten Island, before retiring to Port St. Lucie, Florida in 1985. After his death she moved to La Vergne, Tennessee in 2008 with her daughter.

She is survived by one daughter, Susan L. Ivany also of La Verne, TN, sister, Marina (Don) Noseworthy, brothers Bruce (Agnes) Thistle, Edward (Blanche) Thistle, William (Barbara) Thistle, Jr., all of St. Johns Newfoundland. She was preceded in death by sister Shirley (John) Adams, and brothers Cyril Thistle and Bernard (Joan) Thistle. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews and cousins. She will be greatly missed.

Helen was a homemaker, but in her early years worked in retail as a manager. She was a devoted Christian and loved animals, reading, movies, listening to hymns and bowling.

Services: Visitation will be from 2:00 - 3:00 pm on Sunday, March 7, 2010 at Forest Hills Funeral Homes - Palm City Chapel, with a funeral service at 3:00 pm. For those who wish, donations may be made to Alive Hospice, 1639 Medical Center Way, Suite 202, Murfreesboro, Tennessee, 37129, in Mrs. Ivany's memory. They were a true blessing to our family at a very hard time. Arrangements are under the direction of Forest Hills Funeral Homes - Palm City Chapel.
