IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Helen Maria
Peterson
April 15, 1952 – April 16, 2025
Helen Maria Peterson, 73, of Port St Lucie, FL, passed away peacefully following a courageous battle with cancer on April 16, 2025, surrounded by her beloved family. Helen was born to parents Robert and Margret Peterson on April 15, 1952 in Queens, New York. Helen grew up on Long Island and raised her family of three boys in West Islip where she attended school. Helen's boys would later attend the same schools. Helen spent most of her years on Long Island as a hairdresser, but also spent several years in Iceland where she would explore and spend time living with her Icelandic relatives. Helen also served as a stewardess with Icelandic Airlines.
Later in life all her boys finished school on Long Island and moved to North Carolina. Helen then moved to Raleigh, NC in 2006 to be closer to her three sons. It was in Raleigh where she met the love of her life, Andy, whom she married in Las Vegas on Valentine's Day 2010. After several years thereafter in Wilmington, NC, Helen and Andy, who always loved the beach, palm trees, the sun, and warmth, moved to Florida in 2019. Following three years in Key West, FL, they moved to the Port St Lucie, FL area, where they eventually settled in a 55+ community, Veranda Preserve, and made lots of new friends they cherished.
Helen loved lighthouses, decorating her home, flamingos, collecting shells while walking on the beach, traveling, and spending time with loved ones over a festive fruity cocktail, her favorite. She was always taking pictures of everything and everyone around her, making sure to capture the best lifetime memories. Helen could always be found in beautiful outfits & dresses with coordinating bags, sunglasses, shoes, and jewelry. Helen loved and enjoyed her time with Andy at the Veranda Preserve community taking part in the Women's social club, the Italian social club, and all other social events at their clubhouse celebrating holidays, dancing, showcasing her jewelry & having fun with neighbors & new friends!
Despite battling cancer for the past 2+yrs, Helen never lost her spunk, a display of her strong Viking blood. Even after entering hospice care, she made sure to hold on to celebrate one final birthday with her loved ones around her. She left this earthly plane on her terms the day after her birthday: a peaceful passing, with her husband, Andy, and her son, Keith, by her side.
Helen is preceded in death by her mother (Margret), father (Robert), her brother (Johnny), and her beloved Maltese (Maggi May). She is survived by her husband, Andy; her sons, Robert (Bryce, son-in-law), John, and Keith; her sisters, Linda (Luke, Daniel, and Jacob, nephews; Savannah, niece) and Nancy (Billy, brother-in-law; Kaitlyn and Rachel, nieces); her brother, Donald (Nancy, sister-in-law; Benny, nephew; Ella, niece); her stepdaughters, Rachel (Kevin, son-in-law; Charlotte, granddaughter; Morgan, grandson) and Lauren (Alayna, granddaughter; Joseph, grandson); and a large extended family in both the U.S. 🇺🇸 and Iceland 🇮🇸
