Obituary

Hendrik "Hank" Vanderlely, age 86, passed away peacefully on February 10, 2026, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Born on July 11, 1939, in Jakarta, Indonesia, Hank lived a life defined by resilience, devotion to family, and a deep passion for the things he loved.

As a child, Hank was a prisoner of war and survived four years in a Japanese concentration camp while his father and grandfather were set to work on the bridge over the River Kwai. He lived all over the world and spoke five languages. Hank immigrated to the United States in 1966, carrying with him determination and an adventurous spirit that would shape the rest of his life. In partnership with his friend Joe DeBellas, he built two successful businesses, Corvette Center and Offshore Marine. He had a respected career, where his work ethic and hands-on expertise earned him admiration from colleagues and friends alike.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Hank was a man of strong passions. He was an avid follower of IndyCar and Formula 1 racing. He had an affinity for chocolate chip cookies and spending time in Lake Placid, Florida.  He had a soft spot for animals and found joy in their companionship. Above all else, Hank's greatest love was his family. He was a devoted husband of 46 years to Leslie and a proud father to Hendrik, Conrad (Kristen sp.), and Adriana. His grandchildren, Willem and Esme, brought him immense happiness and pride. He is also lovingly remembered by his sisters, Margherita Campbell and Saskia Vanderlely.

Hank will be remembered for his steady presence, warm heart, and unwavering love for those closest to him. His journey from Indonesia to America was one of courage and perseverance, and the life he built here leaves a lasting legacy of dedication, strength, and family devotion.

He will be deeply missed and forever cherished by all who knew and loved him. Private services and celebration of life will be held at a later date.
