Herma Chapel (Hoffman) of Port Saint Lucie, Florida suffered an unexpected brain bleed and died at the age 74 on July 25, 2021.
Herma is survived by her husband Louis Chapel, her sister, Helen Barden of New Jersey, her daughter, Randi Schietz (Dubin) of Wellington, Florida, and her two grandsons, Jesse (23) and Lee (21) Schietz. She is predeceased by her parents Rose and Sheldon Hoffman.
Herma was born and raised in New York City and Queens. She began her career as an artist and fashion illustrator in Manhattan and then had a successful career as an Art Director designing catalogs for various department stores and mail-order catalogs. As an art director for Macy's, she was even given the opportunity to walk as a balloon-float holding clown in their annual Thanksgiving Day Parade. In the 70's she proudly rode around the city on a motorcycle and briefly revisited that passion when she retired and moved to Florida in 2010. At 74, she continued to work for Calico Corners and "Saturdays" to help customers design their homes and furniture. She was passionate about design and had a laugh that was so infectious. She will be deeply missed by her friends and family.
A funeral service will be held at 1:30 on Wednesday, July 28. Rabbi Michael Resnick will officiate.
