Obituary of Herman Murray

Herman Murray

Herman Murray entered into rest on September 21, 2007 at Hospice Harper House, Stuart, FL. He was born in Roxana, Delaware moving to Florida in 1940. He served in the US Army prior to attending Florida State University where he majored in insurance. He began his insurance career as a representative of Life Insurance Company of Virginia earning the designation of "Rookie of the Year" as the top national first-year producer of 1957. Mr. Murray was a past president of Optimist International, Ft. Lauderdale Chapter, and a former member of the First Baptist Church of Deerfield Beach where he served as a Youth Department teacher.

He moved to Stuart from Pompano Beach in 1968 to serve as Martin County's Farm Bureau Insurance Agent. During these years of service (1968-1974), he received national recognition for his outstanding achievements, including Top National Producer of 1970. His life insurance performance earned him membership in the Million Dollar Roundtable.

Mr. Murray founded his local independent insurance agency in 1974 expanding to a network of seven locations and representing over 30 insurance companies. Cotton States Insurance Company twice designated him as a Master Underwriter; twice he attained the All State coveted award of Distinguished Agency. Mr. Murray was a member of the First Baptist Church of Stuart and a past member of their financial board.

Upon his retirement in 1998, he continued to reside in Martin County until his passing. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Shirley; Sons: Shaun, (Laura) Oviedo, FI. and Shannon (Vicki) Hobe Sound, FI.; Grandchildren: Cameron, Carson, Evan, and Tori Lynn; Brother: Marshall Murray, Sisters: Martha Adkins, and Louise Memfee, Nephews:

Jeff Adkins, Paul Adkins, Jerry Murray, Danny Boothe, George Robinson, Nieces:

Barbara Furman, Bernice Godfrey, Patsy Gabrione, Betty Adams, Sondra Shaw, Louan Murray, Cathy Murray, Kim Murray, Christine Baxley, Lisa Murray.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the First Baptist Church of Stuart, 200 West Ocean Blvd, Stuart, FL on September 26, 2007. Viewing at 9:30 a.m. with a Celebration of Life at 11::OOa.m. Internment will follow at Forest Hills Memorial Park, 2001 SW Murphy Rd., Palm City, Fl. Friends are invited to attend the family reception in the church reception hall following internment.
