Obituary of Irene McCaw-Knichel
Irene A. McCaw-Knichel 86, of Port St Lucie, Florida passed away peacefully on March 4, 2014. She was born in Bushmills, Northern
Ireland on Sept. 18, 1927. Portrush, N. Ireland is where she grew up, attended school & in 1944 married Army Air Corp Sergeant, Raymond
E. Knichel who was stationed at Nuts Corner Field in N. Ireland during WWII. Irene came to the USA through Ellis Island as a war-bride in 1946
aboard the USS Erickson. The newlyweds lived in Keanesburg, New Jersey before moving to Puerto Rico in 1953. Irene lived & raised her children in Puerto Rico for 13 years. In 1967 she and her children moved to Ft Lauderdale, FL. where she lived & worked for 20 years. In 1987 she moved to Port St Lucie, FL., where she retired from Walmart at age 83.
Irene is survived by her son Raymond J Knichel of Norfolk, Va., daughter Rene J Jacobs of Port St Lucie, FL., Grandchildren, Matthew Lane, Phillip Lane, Raymond Knichel Jr, Jennifer Knichel, Taylor A. Jacobs and Great-Grandchildren, Kaleb, Montana, Kyra, Avery, Charlotte and Dylan.
Irene was preceded in death by her father James McCaw, mother Janie Shaw and brother Alfred McCaw, all of North Ireland.
She was deeply devoted to her family and friends and she will be forever and always loved and missed.
Irene's final wishes are to have her ashes returned to her homeland of Northern Ireland to be with her parents and brother.
