IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Iris Dorothy
Arnowitt
April 22, 1928 – April 11, 2023
Our rock and lifelong inspiration, Iris Arnowitt passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 11th, just 11 days shy of her 95th birthday. She was full of energy, mobile, and sharp as a tack until her very last days.
Iris is survived by her son Bob and daughter Kim, daughter-in-law Linda, son-in-law David, and 5 adoring grandchildren—Steven, Lauren, Jenna, Danielle & Krista! Originally from the New York area, Iris later bragged that she was a "real Floridian" having lived in the Sunshine State longer than her native New York. Iris was a 60's & 70's era Mom who shepherded her son and daughter through Little League, the Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts, and volunteer activities—culminating in wonderful business school and law school educations. She started her own college counseling business and for many years commuted to her Manhattan office daily.
Iris was an avid snow skier, recreational boater, water skier, and camper—with much of that time on her beloved Lake George in New York's Adirondacks. Iris and her late husband Ed worked harder than any two people we've ever known, but around age 60 (youngish!) they drew a line in the sand and dusted off a very well-planned escape to Florida. They kept themselves quite busy with community activities, good friends, and charity work including their keen development interest in Indian River State University and student scholarships. Curiously and unlike so many retirees, despite owning a boat, they never fished, or played golf for that matter. They lived, loved, and passed through this world doing it "their way," and they were darn proud of it. (us too!) We love you, and we'll miss you, Mom. Shalom and Godspeed on this next journey to an even better place.
In lieu of Flowers, memorial gifts would make Mom smile:
