Obituary of Jack Mace
Jack R. Mace, 83 passed away December 2, 2007 in Treasure Coast Hospices.
Jack R. Mace was born in Youngstown, Ohio, the son of Joseph and Florence Mace.
Mr. Mace graduated from Ohio Wesleyan University and the Illinois Institute of Technology and a member of Phi Delta Theta and Alpha Chi Sigma. He was president of his fraternities and the school political party.
He served in World War II in the Navy aboard the USS Pennsylvania and played in the US Navy band. Prior to entering the service he played with the Stan Kenton Orchestra. During WW II he received the Victory Medal, American Campaign Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Theatre Medal and Good Conduct Medal.
He joined the Aetna Life Insurance Co. as a Home Office Representative in Toledo, Ohio, later became Vice President of SG Carson and Association and was active civically and socially with memberships in the Toledo Club, The Sylvania Country Club, The Chamber of Commerce and other local organizations.
Mr. Mace became General Agent for The Aetna in Miami in 1964, known as J.R. Mace, CLU and Associates. It became one of the Aetnas largest agencies, receiving The Presidents Trophy five times, and setting numerous production records.
While in Miami, Mr. Mace was an active member in The Miami Club, The Riviera Country Club, The Bankers Club, The Kiwanis Club, The Estate Planning Council and other social organizations. During the summers while in North Carolina, he was a member of The Lake Toxaway Country Club and Sapphire Lakes Country Club.
Since arriving in Palm City in 1993 from Coral Gables, Florida, he was an active member in Pipers Landing Country Club, The Volunteers in Medicine, the Salvation Army, Martin Memorial Hospital, the One Hundred Club of Martin County and Holy Redeemer Catholic Church. Mr. Mace was an avid golfer his entire life.
He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years Mary Jane Duffey Mace and three children, John David Mace of Fort Lauderdale, FL, Cathy Mace Stephenson of Marietta, GA, Michael James Mace and his wife Jeannie of Acworth, GA and a grandson Kevin Mace Stephenson of Statesboro, GA.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Treasure Coast Hospices, 1201 SE Indian Street, Stuart, FL 34997.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30AM, Saturday, December 22, 2007 at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Palm City.
Arrangements are under the direction of Forest Hills Funeral Home.
