Obituary of James Durkin

Durkin- James J. Durkin passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 7. 2015 at his place of residence. He was 87 years old. Mr. Durkin was a member of Holy Redeemer Church in Palm City, Florida. And Martin Downs Golf Club. He was born in New York City in 1927 and graduated from Cardinal Hayes High School in 1946. Mr. Durkin served 2 years active duty in the Marine Corps. He graduated from Pace College in 1950 and joined a major public accounting firm for approx. 7 years. In 1973 Mr. Durkin was hired as treasurer of the New Jersey Sports & Exposition Authority. He worked there for twenty years retired as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer. Mr. Durkin was married to Floretta McCarthy for 61 years before she passed away after a short illness. Preceded by Daughter Barbara Ann Collins in 2014. He is survived by Son: James J. Durkin, Jr. of New Port Richey, Florida; Son & Daughter-in-law: Christopher & Patricia Durkin of Lawrenceville, Georgia; 8 Grandchildren; 2 Great Grandchildren; Sister: Margaret O'Conner of New York. The family will receive friends from 10:00-11:00 AM on Saturday, March 21, 2015 at Forest Hills Funeral Home- Palm City Chapel. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:30 AM on Saturday, March 21, 2015 at Holy Redeemer Church: 1454 SW Mapp Rd, Palm City, FL 34990.
