James W. Grossnickle STUART, FL Dr. James W. Grossnickle passed away peacefully at his home on July 11, 2016 under the exceptional care of Treasure Coast Hospice. James "Jimmy" Grossnickle was born December 12, 1929. In Columbus, Mississippi to Russell Lowell Sr. and Jessie Linda Grossnickle. He enjoyed a full childhood of gardening and tennis, becoming the best fourteen year-old tennis player in the country. He then entered Northwestern Medical School at the age of seventeen, making him, upon entering, the youngest individual to attend the medical school in its history. After a general practice residency at New Orleans' Charity hospital, and a surgical residency at York hospital in Pennsylvania, he found his home in Stuart, Florida in 1961. Initially he was the only surgeon in Martin County. Dr. Grossnickle practiced medicine for thirty years in Stuart with the assistance of his faithful nurse Josie Zorn, and retired in 1991. Dr. Grossnickle was honored to deliver children into this world, and treat the ailments of his neighbors. Changing lives along the way. Martin County was his home of choice, and he loved the area and the people as well as they could be loved. He is survived by his sister Bonnie Jean Grossnickle, son Russell Grossnickle, son James Grossnickle and daughterin-law Shari Grossnickle, daughter Gail Harvey and sonin-law Octavius Reis, daughter Brenda Grossnickle and daughter-in-law Laura Evans, daughter Beth Grossnickle, daughter Patti Grossnickle and son in law Michael Syrkus, and his eight loved grandchildren. In his off-time, Dr. Grossnickle showed his six children much of the world, avidly played tennis, and enjoyed time in his yard. He lived his life to the fullest, and shared so much joy with all those who knew him. Jimmy's friends and neighbors are encouraged to attend his memorial service, Saturday July 16th 2016 at 1 P.M. located at First United Methodist Church in Stuart Florida.
