Obituary

James Francis O’Connor, beloved husband, brother, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on May 10, 2026. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Lois, of sixty-six years on February 9, 2026, his son, Kevin, in 1993, and his brother, Dan in 2024. Jim will be remembered with love by his daughter, Ren Maffeo; his three grandchildren, Samantha, Kaitlin, and Jennifer; his sister, Mary Pat Hall; his brother Thomas O’Connor; and his friends in South Florida, North Carolina, and Sandhill Cove Senior Living Community in Palm City, Florida.

Jim was a natural athlete and excelled in basketball and baseball at Greenhills High School and Otterbein University in Westerville, Ohio. He told Ren that basketball was his favorite sport in school, but golf became a lifelong passion that he initially learned from his half brother, Jack and his father, John O’Connor. Jim earned the title of Delray Dunes golf tournament champion the first year of his retirement and later made three “aces”, holes-in-one. He was an active, well-loved member of Delray Dunes Golf and Country Club for many years before Jim and Lois decided to become “half backers” and moved to Connestee Falls Community in Brevard, North Carolina.

Jim’s granddaughters happily sat on his lap while they watched golf matches and shared cookies with Grandpa in the living room recliner in Grandma and Grandpa’s West Palm Beach, Florida home. Brunch at Delray Dunes Golf and Country Club and a local diner for fish and chips for Jim were a favorite of the family, while Jim enjoyed a successful career as a stockbroker for eighteen years with Smith Barney, then Morgan Stanley Smith Barney Brokerage Firm. As a senior advisor, Jim welcomed his daughter into the business as her sponsoring Financial Advisor in 1998, where they both thrived in managing wealth for their valued long-term clients and family friends.

Jim and Lois O’Connor were well cared for by Jim’s brother, Tommy O’Connor, Lois and Jim’s daughter, Ren Maffeo, and Sandhill Cove Senior Living Community, Water’s Edge Health and Rehabilitation Center, and Treasure Coast Hospice medical teams. Heartfelt thanks to all in making the transition comfortable and gently loving in the couple’s final days.

A celebration of life and memorial will be held for James and Lois O’Connor on Saturday, August 22, 2026, at the Greenhills Community Pool and Park from 11am-3pm for family and friends.
