Obituary of James Steele

James Woolsey Steele, 81, passed away peacefully on December 29, 2012 at his residence in Palm City, Florida. Born September 11, 1931 to Thomas Findlay Steele and Dorothy Guernon Steele in Scranton, Pennsylvania. He graduated from Riverside Military Academy, University of Scranton and Penn State University where he obtained a Masters of Business and Administration.

His long and varied professional career included being a Vice President of Human Resources for Certainteed/Saint-Gobain, owner of Resource Systems, a business consulting firm, and being a Professor at the Drexel University, School of Business.

He split his time between residence in Radnor, Pennsylvania and Palm City, Florida. Travel was Jim's passion. He loved traveling the globe and photo documenting his journeys. In his younger years, he was an avid golfer and club champion. He was a member of the Bryn Mawr Presbyterian Church, the Merion Cricket Club and Harbor Ridge Golf Club. Jim was active in numerous organizations where he volunteered his time including the Curtis Institute of Music, The Philadelphia Orchestra, The Philadelphia Flower Show, the Bryn Mawr Hospital and PBS.

Jim is survived by his wife, Penny M. Steele; sons Thomas (Robyn) and James (Andrea); daughter Sherrerd (Greg); stepson, Alexander; stepdaughter Danielle (Derek); eight grandchildren and four step grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Thomas F. Steele, Jr., and his first wife, Lucie B. Steele.

A memorial service for Jim will be held at Bryn Mawr Presbyterian Church in Bryn Mawr, PA on Saturday, January 12, 2013 from 11 to 12 PM. Memorial donations may be made to the Bryn Mawr Hospital, 130 South Bryn Mawr Avenue, Bryn Mawr, PA 19010.
