Jane Martinson Buss, age 86, passed away peacefully on September 12, 2026, with her daughters by her side. She was born on March 3, 1940, in Chester, Pennsylvania to Granville and Ussie Martinson. She graduated from Chester High School and went on to earn her bachelor’s degree from Eastern College in 1962, a Master’s degree in education from Keene State College in1976, and a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study from Anna Maria College in 1984. She began her career as a reading specialist and had various educational roles including teacher, guidance counselor, and assistant principal. Perhaps her greatest achievement and joy was serving as the first principal of Bessie Creek Elementary School in Palm City,FL, from 1996 to 2000. Her final professional endeavor was as the Reading Language Arts Coordinator for the Martin County School District. She retired in 2005 so she could travel and spend time with her grandchildren. Jane is predeceased by her husband Howard, to whom she was married for thirty-three years until his passing, and by her older sister, Eleanor. Jane was the loving mother of Amy (Madhur) and Emily (David) and the doting grandmother of Nina, Nikhil, Evan, Elise, and Jason. She is also survived by her brother, Tom, and her sister-in-law Phyllis.

Jane was an avid reader and traveled extensively. She also loved spending time with her friends, and enjoyed the arts and theater and walking. Her community involvement included work with the Historical Society of Martin County, the Palm City Chamber of Commerce, the Alpha Delta Kappa Honorary Society, and the Lyric Theater. She volunteered for several organizations such as 4Cs and the Festival of Trees with Teens and Tykes. Memorial contributions may be made in Jane’s honor to the Environmental Studies Council, of which she was an ardent supporter (NE Indian River Drive, Jensen Beach, FL, 34597).
