Janet Christie passed away on April 26, 2019, in Jupiter, Florida. She was 68.
Janet was born on November 28, 1950 in Chelsea, Massachusetts to her parents, Roy and Therese Martin. She traveled the world working for National and Pan Am airlines; she worked as an administrator for the Miami-Dade County State Attorney's Office and later began a career in the arts, working in management with the Coconut Grove Playhouse, the Arsht Center, The New World Symphony and the Lyric Theater. She married Gilbert Todd Norbraten in 1981. While they traveled the world for work, the Norbraten's home base was Miami, Florida, where they raised their son, Todd Martin Norbraten. The couple divorced in 1985 and Janet remained in Miami until she retired to Palm City in 2012, where she lived a simple life with her boyfriend Scott Shaw. In retirement, Janet dedicated her time to educating and caring for her grandchildren and her mother.
Janet was a kind and loyal friend to many and a dedicated mother, daughter, sister and grandmother to her family. She is survived by her son and daughter -in-law, Todd and Keri Norbraten; her mother, Therese Martin; sister Kay DeSoiza; sister Linda Harrison; brother and sister-in-law, Roy, Jr. and Brenda Martin; brother Robert Martin; and her two grandchildren, Charlotte and Connor Norbraten. She is preceded in death by her father, Roy Martin, Sr.
A funeral service will take place on Friday, May 10 at 4:00 p.m. at St. Mary's Episcopal Church located at 623 SE Ocean Blvd. Stuart, FL 34994. All are welcome to attend. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Library Foundation of Martin County, where Janet enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.
