Jerome “Jerry” Sherwood Bayer 02/28/1939-07/31/2026

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Jerome “Jerry” Sherwood Bayer on July 31, 2026.

Jerry was born on February 28, 1939, in Manhattan, New York, to Honey Wallens and Leo Bayer. He proudly served his country for three years in the United States Marine Corps.

Jerry was the devoted husband of Alice Salinas Bayer for 60 years and the proud father of Stacy Panetta, Jeffrey Bayer, and Ronald Bayer. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Alice, and their son, Ron.

One of Jerry’s greatest joys was being “Papa” to his five grandchildren: Michael Panetta, Matthew Panetta, Colby Bayer, Joseph Bayer, and Alexandra Bayer. There was truly nothing he loved more than spending time with his family. He was the ultimate family man, with a sweet and loving spirit that made people feel like family. Jerry had a way of welcoming others into his heart and loving them as if they were his own.

Jerry was a Christian who believed in Jesus and carried a deep faith throughout his life. His faith was a source of strength and comfort, and it gives his family peace to know that he is now at home with the Lord.

Jerry was also a lifelong and proud New York sports fan, always cheering on his teams through the highs and the lows. And how lucky were we that he got to see the Knicks become champions one more time. 

We will miss Jerry more than words can express, but we will forever cherish the memories, laughter, stories, and time we were blessed to share with him. While our hearts are broken, we find comfort in knowing that he is reunited with his parents, his beloved wife, Alice, and his son, Ron. 

Until we see you again, Daddy and Papa. You will be loved and missed forever.
