Obituary of Jerry Rothgeb

Jerry R. Rothgeb, 51 of Hobe Sound, FL, passed away August 18th, 2013, from complications of pneumonia at the University of Virginia Medical Center with family by his side. He was born on June 30th, in West Palm Beach and lived in Jupiter until he moved to Ohio at the age of 6. He returned to Jupiter in 1977 and became a Volunteer Firefighter for Martin County alongside his father, James Rothgeb, and worked as a painter at Bruce King Chevrolet for many years.

He became a Martin County Firefighter in 1989 and loved contributing to his community in this exciting career. He served as a Lieutenant for a number of years. He continued his passion for care by owning his Auto Body Shop. He Loved helping his fellow firefighters with their auto repairs and served as the treasurer for his local union 2959. Jerry was admired for his automotive knowledge for extrications at the traffic scenes.

Jerry's third passion: Auto Racing. He was part owner in a "Chump" car team and had his own car for SCCA racing. Jerry never missed a NASCAR race. A big Bobby LaBonte fan, he also worked as a firefighter in the pits during the Homestead race.

Jerry was also involved in community sports, supporting his daughters in soccer and baseball. Jerry and his dad, Jim, co-coached baseball in Hobe Sound children's league. Jerry participated in softball leagues for many years.

Jerry is survived by his loving family including his mother, Jeanne Eppley, three daughters: Brenna, Deanna, Jeanna; one Sister Jymme Lanning; four brothers: Lee, Steve, Jim Jr., Mike and many nieces and nephews.

Jerry was preceded in death by his father, James Rothgeb, Grandparents, Uncle and Cousin.

Jerry will be missed by Debra, her parents, sister and brother, the members of Martin County Fire Department and his many friends in several states.

Jerry's daughters have created the Jerry Rothgeb Memorial Fund at Well Fargo for those who would like to contribute. All donations to this fund will be used to help further plans for a training facility for Martin County Firefighters in Jerry's honor.
