Obituary

It is with great sadness and heavy hearts the family announces the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother Jewel Frances McMullen. Our dear loved one died on September 3, 2016 with family by her side.

Born Jewel McAllister in Atlanta, Georgia on 11-5-22 Jewel was the daughter to Pearl (Rice) and Crawford McAllister. Jewel grew up in Decatur Georgia with her six brothers and sisters. Working as a bookkeeper in Atlanta she met John Libratore who was in the Navy and they were married shortly afterwards. They moved to Connecticut where she gave birth to three children and was a homemaker until her children attained school age. She then juggled working as a bookkeeper and raising three children for the next 25 years.

She was a member of the Eastern Star in Suffield Ct. and an active member in the Windsor Locks Congregational Church. After her divorce and retirement, she moved to Florida where she met and on Jan. 4, 1986 married Cornelius McMullen a retired decorated naval captain. Like a storybook marriage they both enjoyed 20 years of traveling the world, ballroom dancing and loving life together until "Mac" passed away June 2006. She spent the next ten years living independently, enjoying her family gatherings and being an active member of Abundant Life Ministries in Stuart FL. Of all that has been achieved or cherished throughout her lifetime nothing compares to the love she has for her family and the lord.

Survivors include her daughter Brenda Gallagher, sons Ronald Libratore (Yvonne), Mark Libratore (Cynthia), grandchildren Russel White, Jennifer Libratore, Ronald Libratore, (Heather) Marcus Libratore (Kristin), Jonathon Libratore (Kira), and great grandchildren Marissa, Landon, Watt, and Benjamin. She also leaves a large number of nephews, nieces, cousins and extended family in Georgia and Connecticut.
She was preceded in death by her loving brothers and sisters, Lewis McAllister, Albert McAllister, Samuel McAllister, Dorothy Watkins, Polly Prichard and Daphne Fortner.

We will forever cherish the memory of this dear lady. Her passing has indeed left a void in all of our lives, but we are all better off having loved and been loved by her.
