IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Joan Margaret
Jurgensen
January 12, 1932 – October 20, 2024
On October 20, 2024, Joan Margaret Jurgensen slipped away peacefully in her sleep at the age of 92
to join her beloved husband Larry who is waiting for her to dance together for eternity.
Joan was born January 12, 1932 in Howard Beach, NY to John and Anita Worsdale. After moving to
Ozone Park in high school she met the love of her life Larry at 16 years old. They married at 21 years
old in 1953 and celebrated 70 years of marriage before Larry passed December 4, 2023.
Joan worked at the Army & Airforce Exchange Service before giving birth to her first child Nancy in
1958. She spent many years after that raising her three children as her priority. She eventually went
back to work at the Kings Park Psychiatric Hospital as an LPN and retired in 1988.
Over the years everyone knew her as a kind person who loved butter pecan ice cream, to sew, cook,
crochet, church, family and friends. All her children and grandchildren received a crocheted
blanket at some time that they all treasured. She also loved to dance, and she and Larry took over
the dance floor wherever they went.
Larry and Joan lived on Long Island until they retired in 1991, moving to Hobe Sound for the first 3
years and then Palm City, FL where they remained throughout their retirement. During retirement
they had the opportunity to travel, and cruising was Joan's favorite. Joan will be greatly missed by
all who knew and loved her.
Joan is survived by her three children, Nancy Schuld (Charl), Lawrence Jurgensen, Jr. (Marilyn) and
Donna LaGoy (James), her four grandchildren Jared Stein (Lexie), Angelique Forbes (William), Lisa
Jurgensen and Ryan Barr as well as her three great-grandchildren Laila, Tyler and Gabriella.
A memorial service will be held at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Palm City at 11AM on Monday
November 11, 2024. Address: 2655 Immanuel Drive, Palm City, FL 34990. The family asks that any
donations be made to the church in her name. (www.ILCBethelight.org).
