IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Joel Allen
Reycraft
September 8, 1944 – October 28, 2022
On Oct 28, 2022 Joel A Reycraft an adventurous, spirited and thoughtful man lost his battle with cancer. He passed quietly at home in the compassionate care of the Treasure Coast Hospice nurses and his wife Susan. Joel was 78 years young.
Joel was born in Gloversville, NY in 1944 and the family spent many years in and around that area. In 1958 the family moved to NJ and he met the girl he would eventually marry. After high school graduation in 1962, Joel enlisted in the US Army. He served in Germany, until the spring of 1964 when he was accepted to (OCS) Officer Candidate School at Fort Benning Georgia. He graduated from the OCS program and served the rest of his Army career as Commandant of The Supply Clerk course located at Fort Dix New Jersey. After his Army discharge he attended Southern Connecticut State College earning a Bachelor's degree.
With college completed Joel started a ceramic manufacturing business, serving the Florist and Greenhouse Companies located along the east coast from Maine to Florida. In order to compete with foreign completion he moved the company to Haiti, and did well there until the overthrow of Haiti's first elected president Jean Bertrand Aristide in 1991. Sadly after the over throw of that government the company had to close.
In 1992 Joel was hired by Brooklyn Bow Co for off shore production, of ribbon trims, used in the garment, stationary and fancy food companies. This new facility was and still is located in Jamaica. Eventually Joel took over the company and lived there for 15 years until he repatriated to the United States.
As a sports enthusiast, he enjoyed golf, diving. snorkeling and snow skiing in Colorado with family. Joel always felt he had shared a full, happy life with his family and friends.
Joel is survived by his wife Susan Reycraft, his younger sister Diana, and younger brother Steven. As the family grew, Joel became an uncle, great uncle and great great Uncle to a wonderful fun loving outgoing group of people. He was preceded in death by his parents Russell G. Reycraft and Ethel Mae Arbogast; older sister Patricia; and older brother Russell.
