John Dynan Candon, 75, of Palm City, FL, died peacefully on December 22, 2016, after a short illness. He leaves behind his loving wife of 18 years, Diane D. (St. Hilaire) Candon, two daughters, a son and step-son: Elizabeth and her husband Michael Wolf of Virginia; Heather and her husband Stephen Petrovcin of New Hampshire; Michael J. Candon of Waltham, MA; and Joshua D. St. Hilaire of Hudson, MA. All told, 7 grandchildren lost their "Grampa Dynan": Julia, Matthew, and Nicholas of Virginia; Skylar and Kiley of New Hampshire; and Juliana Sherblom and Alex St. Hilaire of MA.
Dynan was preceded in death by his father James Matthew Candon and mother Ann (Dynan) Candon of Vermont and his sister Katherine Lyons Candon of Rhode Island. He was the eldest of 7 children. He is survived by his sisters Mary Rita and her husband Ace Manley of E Dorset, VT, and Nancy and her husband George Calder of Contoocook, NH. He is also survived by his brothers Jim and his wife Betty Candon of Jericho, VT, Kevin and his wife Suzy Candon of Rutland VT, and Mark and his wife Debbie Candon of Rutland, VT, along with their families and many nieces and nephews.
Dynan was born in Burlington, VT, at Bishop DeGosbriand hospital in 1941. He graduated from Proctor High School in 1959. He attended the United States Military Academy at West Point, NY, class of 1964. Dynan was injured in a car accident in March of 1962 which left him unable to complete his military training. He subsequently attended the University of Vermont where he matriculated with a BS in Electrical Engineering. He was an Electrical Engineer for Yankee Atomic Electric Company for 29 years and retired in 1995.
Dynan had a zest for living life to the fullest and always had the courage of his convictions. Prior to his accident, he was a gifted athlete; following his accident, he relished playing golf. In recent years, Dynan had a passion for playing golf and bridge. He had a lifelong love for reading many books and listening to classical music. Dynan truly loved his family and very much enjoyed spending time with them. He had many good times from golfing to bridge, to visits in Virginia during travel up or down the coast, to summer vacations on the Cape. When they came to Florida to visit, he delighted in playing golf with his son Michael and brothers, Jim, Kevin and Mark. Dynan also had many dear friends. He especially loved playing cards with his friends Alan and Kathy Everett. They usually played teams of the girls against the guys and the girls almost always won. Dynan was a wonderful husband, father, brother, son, grandfather and friend and will be sadly missed by all.
His funeral will be held on Thursday, December 29, 2016 at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Palm City, FL.
