John Gardner Criddle, age 86, of Stuart, Florida, passed away on Saturday, June 20, after a long battle with pulmonary disease.
Born on January 3 in St. Joseph, Michigan, John was the beloved son of Harriet and Bob Criddle. He lived a life marked by hard work, an unforgettable sense of humor, community service, and deep devotion to his family. To those who knew him, he was a loving father, devoted husband, loyal friend, proud grandfather, and the kind of person who could always be counted on.
John worked for Whirlpool Corporation for 33 years. In retirement, he generously gave his time to Caring Fields Felines, where he helped build structures and safe spaces for the cats to live in. His compassion, practical skills, and willingness to lend a hand made a lasting difference.
John found joy in boating in his boat, “Little Toot”, cheering on the Chicago Bears, playing cards, collecting lighthouses and coins, reading, putting together puzzles, and, most of all, spending time with his family. He also appreciated life’s simple pleasures: a Krispy Kreme doughnut in the morning, a Flanigan’s burger with olives for lunch, and too many sweets to mention.
A true handyman, John had a remarkable gift for fixing things. Whether hanging a shelf, repairing something around the house, or helping a friend or neighbor in need, he was always ready with his tools, his know-how, and his generous spirit.
John is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Sandie; his children, Allison, Rob and his wife, Kathleen; his grandchildren, Kayla and Cole; his sister, Wendy and brother-in-law Bill; and many extended family members and friends who will miss him deeply.
A celebration of life will be held at a future date and time. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Caring Fields Felines.
John will be remembered for his humor, his work ethic, his helping hands, and the love he gave so freely. His memory will remain a blessing to all who knew him.
