John J. O'Connor 97, formerly of Wayne, NJ was born to John J. O'Connor, Sr. and Clara O'Connor in Passaic, NJ.
Beloved husband of Irene Joan Chekan for 61 years. Graduated from Pope Pius XII High school, Passaic, NJ, then self-employed as a mechanical contractor in his own business in Northern New Jersey with major clients in the pharmaceutical industry. John served his country in the US Navy during World War II, stationed in Saipan, South Pacific. A former member of the North Jersey Country Club, Wayne, NJ, John and his wife, Irene spent winters in West Palm Beach, FL, then in 1987 built their home at the Evergreen Club, Palm City. In 2004, they moved to Port St. Lucie and in 2016 settled at the Brennity in Tradition, FL
John was a devoted sports fan, an avid golfer and enjoyed traveling the world with his wife, Irene returning to Saipan, South Pacific in 2000. He was a devout catholic and parishioner of St. Bernadette Church, Port St. Lucie.
John was predeceased by his sisters, Shirley Welch and Muriel Curtin and survived by, brother in-laws Ted Chekan of Tampa, FL and Bob Welch of Clifton, NJ along with many nieces and nephews who held a special place in his heart. He will be greatly missed by family and friends.
