John B. Sozzio, 97, of Palm City, Fl. passed away on July 30, 2017 with his loving family by his side. He was born and raised in Lyndhurst, NJ. He and his deceased wife Dorothy moved from New Jersey to Palm City, Florida in 1992.

In 1942, John enlisted in the Army and defended our country during World War II, attaining the rank of Technical Sergeant. With pride and humility, he often told stories of the four campaigns he participated in: Northern France, Rhineland, Central Europe and Ardennes. As Chief Clerk of the railroad depot in Arlon, Belgium during the Battle of the Bulge, John was awarded a Bronze Star for overseeing the quick repair of the German bombed tracks. These repairs facilitated his ability to the move needed supplies to the Army's First and Third Movements in danger of capture by the Germans.

John was a graduate of Lyndhurst High School, Drake Business College and the Academy of Advanced Traffic, NYC. He was the traffic manager for Theobald Industries and Capital City Products, Kearny, NJ for thirty-nine years. He made significant contributions to a variety of business organizations rising to the position of President of the following: Delta Nu Alpha, Chapter 39, Newark, NJ, New Jersey Industrial Traffic League, The Traffic Club of Newark, NJ, The World Trade Association of New Jersey, and the Jersey Coast Traffic Club. He was honored several times for his contributions to the traffic industry in the Tri-State area. John loved to bowl and enjoyed playing golf. He and his late wife Dorothy delighted in traveling throughout the world.

John held dear his family of girls and their offspring. He is survived by his daughters, Karen (Steven) Griffin, Joanne (Richard) Merrell and Donna Sozzio. He was very proud of his six grandchildren: Dr. Eric Griffin (Adrienne), Ryan Merrell (Karla), Christopher Wiemer, Dana Griffin Anderwald (Robert), Brian Wiemer (Nicole) and Justin Wiemer. He enjoyed the visitations of his eleven great-grandchildren. John's beloved wife Dorothy of 65 years departed this earth in June 2011. Never a day passed that he didn't miss her.
