John "Jack" Thomas Spran, 86, of Palm City, Florida, passed away on January 15, 2018 at the Treasure Coast Hospice, Barbara Harper House in Stuart, Florida.
Jack was born and raised in Cicero, Illinois. He resided in Coral Springs, Florida starting in 1978, and enjoyed his retirement in Palm City Florida for the past 24 years.
Jack proudly served on the U.S.S Guitarro Submarine in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. After his service, he graduated from the University of Illinois.
Jack had a long career with the Chicago Tribune company, which lead to his transfer to become the Vice President of Human Resources of the Ft. Lauderdale News Sun Sentinel. He was a hard working and well respected leader by his peers.
Jack was a devout Catholic and a member at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church. There he was also a member of the Knights of Columbus Martin Council 6241. On Monday evenings, he volunteered at St. Joseph's Soup Kitchen.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Barbara, his four children; Elizabeth, John, David and wife Suzanne, Catherine and husband Jeff, 8 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, his brother, James, and his three sisters; Joan, Kathleen and Margaret.
Visitation will be from 4-7 PM on Friday, January 19, 2018 at the Forest Hills Funeral Home at 2001 SW Murphy Road Palm City, FL 34990. The Vigil Prayer Service will begin at 6PM. A Mass of Catholic Burial will be celebrated at 12 PM on Saturday, January 20, 2018 at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church at 1454 SW Mapp Road Palm City, FL 34990. Military honors will be provided by the U.S. Navy.
