Obituary of John Taylor

John W. Taylor, 87, of Palm City, FL, passed away on Thursday, February 27, 2014 at his home in Whispering Sound.

Born in Cumberland, WI, he lived in Palm City for 14 years, coming from Boca Raton, FL. He moved to Florida from Hartsdale, New York.

During both World War II and the Korean War he served in the U.S. Navy.

Before retiring he was an executive with IBM in White Plains, NY where he was employed for 41 years in sales and development. I was instrumental in the development of IBM's first computer. After retiring from IBM, he owned and operated Above and Beyond Construction for 8 years. He was of the Catholic Faith.

He was active with the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill and was state chairman of Planned Assistance Network, for 4 years and Martin/St. Lucie president for 2 years. He was also involved with the CR 714 Neighborhood Alliance, Whispering Sound representative, he was retiree volunteer for the "IBM On Demand Community" and coordinator of Oakwood Mental Health PC Training Center. At Whispering Sound he served on several committees: community awareness, engineering, was appointed to the board of directors as secretary in 1998, Men's Club president, veterans, men's golf, documents, budget, nomination/election and storage. Besides this he had served as the president of 2 homeowners and 2 condo associations and a complex of 19 condo associations.

Survivors include his wife of 37 years, Gloria Taylor of Palm City; sons, John W. Taylor Jr. of Spring Valley, NY, Larry Jacobs and his wife Dawn of Syracuse, NY and Ted Jacobs of Riviera Beach, FL; a daughter, Debra Taylor and her fianc, Doreen Boyer of Congers, NY; his sisters, Vera Martin and Dorothy and grandchildren, Alicia Jacobs and Ashley Jacobs. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Kathleen Taylor and six siblings.

SERVICES: Visitation will be from 3:00 to 6:00 PM at the Forest Hills Funeral Home, Palm City, FL on Sunday, March 2, 2014. The funeral service will be at 10:00 AM on Monday, March 3, 2014 in the funeral home chapel. Entombment will follow in Forest Hills Memorial Park, Palm City with military honors provided be the U.S. Navy.
