John was born on March 21, 1926, to Edwin and Anna Vale, in Nanticoke, Pennsylvania. He was a school superintendant for most of his life until his retirement.

John Vale (Jack) was commissioned to the USS Quincy, a heavy cruiser. Jack was commissioned to the radarscope (CIC). His ship carried President Roosevelt, Winston Churchill and Ibn Saud of Ethiopia. Stalin was also to go, but did not show up. Jack's mission was to plot the positions of all ships in the area. President Roosevelt came by each day to talk to Jack about the ship's position on the radar. Jack's concern was how to talk to a president.  President Roosevelt told him to pretend as if he was talking to his father. President Roosevelt would stop by to find out the ship's location on a daily basis and Jack looked forward to his visits.

John and his wife Norma were married Dec 26, 1951 and had (3) Children: Deborah (Keith) Pattison-of Hudson Falls, NY; Karen Vale (Robert Moore, deceased) of Livingston, N.Y.; John Vale (Deceased) and his wife Joyce of Germantown, NY; (6) grandchildren: Julie (Oystein) Eriksen-of Oslo Norway; Christopher (Laura)  Pattison -of Rochester, NY; Graig (Stacy) Pattison-of Iron Mountain, NC; John Vale (Lauren Fix) of Germantown, NY; Heather (Nick) Trapini-of Walden, NY; Rachel (Jake) Marks of Earlton, NY; great grandchildren (9): Karolina, Helena, and Eva Erikson of Oslo Norway; Claire, Rylan and Elijah Pattison-of Rochester, NY; Scarlett and Troy Pattison-of Iron Mountain, NC; Noah Trapini-Of Walden, NY.

A private memorial service has been scheduled at Forest Hills Funeral Home in Palm City, FL on Friday September 4th.
