On May 3, 2022, John P. Valenti passed away at the age of 79.

John was born on June 9, 1942 in Chicago, IL to Peter and Carmella Valenti. After graduating from high school, John joined the U.S. Marine Corps and was stationed in San Diego, California and Okinawa, Japan, and did tours in Vietnam. His training as a reconnaissance diver proved impactful in the process of detecting underwater mine fields off the coast of Vietnam. After serving his country, he married his longtime sweetheart Diane, whom he met when they were 13 years old. John and Diane have three children; Kimberly, Peter, and John Jr.

John was a certified scuba instructor, and his love of sailing, scuba diving, and warm weather solidified his and Diane's decision to relocate to South Florida, where he became a Certified General Contractor, specializing in the rehabilitation and restoration of historical buildings, receiving preservation awards from the City of Ft. Lauderdale. Upon arriving in Florida, John immediately became involved in the local sailing circuit winning trophies, most notably the Ft. Lauderdale - Bimini Circuit.

Approaching retirement age but refusing to settle down, John decided to pursue a career in commercial / residential building construction inspection, working for both private and governmental entities.

John is survived by his wife of 57 years, Diane, his three children and their spouses, Kimberly and Kevin Burroughs, Peter and Gloria Ines Valenti, and John Jr. and Gloria Lucy Valenti, and his six grandchildren Kevin, Siliang Liao (Kevin's spouse), Christian, Gabriella, Sarah, Angela, and John III. John is also survived by his brother Vito Valenti and his sister Gayle Valenti.

A memorial service will be held on Monday May 9th at 10:00 a.m. at Forest Hills Funeral Home.
