Obituary of Joseph Briere

Joseph A. Briere, 84, of Palm City, Florida, died, June 26, 2009 at the Parkway Nursing and Rehabilitative Care Center, Stuart, Florida.

Born in Fort Totten, New York, he lived on Hutchinson Island and in Palm City for 21years coming from Wayne, New Jersey.

He graduated from Hawthorne, N.J., High School and Montclair State College in New Jersey. He was of the Catholic Faith.

During World War II he served in the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific.

Before retiring, he was an educator in the Wayne, N.J. Public Schools for 36 years. He began his service as a teacher in 1950 and was named principal of the Mountain View School in 1955. He subsequently served as principal of the Ryerson, James Fallon and Lafayette Schools until his retirement in 1986. The Wayne Board of Education honored him at his retirement for his "36 years of dedicated service to the Wayne School District as a teacher, principal, and friend." He was a member of the National Education Association and New Jersey Education Association.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Kathleen Briere of Palm City; a son Glenn Briere, of Cambridge, Massachusetts; a daughter Karen Eccleston of Palm City; sisters Marie Bauman of Melbourne, Fla. and Annette Shepard of Wayne, N.J., and a brother, Paul Briere, of Arlington, Tex. He was preceded in death be several siblings.

SERVICES: There will be a memorial service at 1:00 PM on July 1, 2009 at the Forest Hills Funeral Homes - Palm City Chapel.
