Obituary of Joseph Cali

Joseph J. Cali Sr., 88, of Port St. Lucie, died April 26, 2013 in Port St. Lucie.

He was born in New York City and had been a resident of Port St. Lucie for 20 years coming from Flushing, New York. He also resided for a short time in Darien, Georgia.

During World War II he served in the US Navy aboard the USS Montauk as a corpsman and a pharmacist's mate first class. He also served during the Korea War at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.

Prior to retiring he had been lighting designer and consultant and did all the lighting design at Tradition in Port St. Lucie. He worked as a part time funeral attendant for Forest Hills Funeral Homes, mostly in Port St. Lucie. He also had worked for Leaf Lighting in Stuart, FL and the Lighting Center in Carle Place, NY.

He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, Port St. Lucie, Port St Lucie Lodge 2658 BPO Elks and the American Legion.

Survivors include his wife Eve Cali; a daughter, Karen M. Ostrand her husband Jim Ostrand of Port St. Lucie; a son Joseph J. Cali Jr. and his wife Lori Lieberman of Calabasas, CA; grandchildren, Michael Prefontaine, Stephen Prefontaine, Marie Schess, Richard Prefontaine, Emma Cali, Claire Cali, Catherine Cali, Eden Cali, James Ostrand, Janeen Hambleton, William Scott, Daniel Scott, and Emily Scott; eleven great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife Marie C. Cali and his brothers, Charles Cali and Frederick Cali.

SERVICES: Visitation was from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on April 28, 2013 at Forest Hills Funeral Homes Byrd Young & Prill Chapel, Port St. Lucie with a vigil prayer service at 7:00 PM. There was also visitation from 6:00 to 9:00 PM on Thursday, May 2, 2013 at McCourt & Trudden Funeral Home, Main Street, Farmingdale, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Bayside, New York on Friday, May 3, 2013. Readings were done by his grandson Michael, great-granddaughter Ariana. His daughter-in-law Lori sang "Amazing Grace" and he was euolgized by his son Joe. Interment, with his parents, was in Mount St. Mary's Cemetery, Flushing, NY with military honors provided by the US Navy.

On June 19, Joe's wife Eve passed away, not even 2 months after him.
