Obituary of Joseph Mccloskey
Dr. Joseph Charles McCloskey, D. D. S., 89, died Monday, July 23, 2007.
Born in Paterson, NJ, he moved to Palm City in 1986 from North Haledon, NJ.
He was an Army veteran of World War II; he was a member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He received his Bachelors degree from Paterson State College and was a graduate of St. Louis University College of Dentistry. He practiced dentistry for 35 years before retiring to Florida.
He was of the Catholic faith and had been a member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Palm City. He was a member of Knights of Columbus and past Grand Knight.
He was a member of Serra and the Ancient Order of Hibernians.
He was a member of the Association of Motorcycling Doctors and was author of a book, Memoirs of a Biker. He was also a golf enthusiast.
Survivors include his wife of 21 years, Therese Folsom McCloskey of Palm City; sons, Joseph McCloskey, Jr., of Brooklyn, NY; Mark Paul McCloskey of Haledon, NJ; David Brian McCloskey of Highland Lakes, NJ; and Robert William McCloskey of Lake Hopatcong,, NJ; step-sons, Charles Clarke Folsom, Jr. of Chicopee, MA and Joseph Harry Folsom of Henryville, PA; step-daughters, Kathleen Anne OBrien of Pompton Lakes, NJ; Mary Grace Baumann of Greenwood Lake, NY; Laura Jean Pochatko of Mahwah, NJ; and Susan Terese Venturini of Littleton, CO; sisters, Mary Byrne of Butler, NJ and Eleanor Gardiner of Ridgewood, NJ; 15 grandhcildren; several nieces and nephews, including Tom Massar of Palm City.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Elsie Gaugler McCloskey and brothers John and Patrick McCloskey.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Treasure Coast Hospices, Inc., 1201 SE Indian Street, Stuart, FL 34997 or your favorite charity.
Services: No local services are scheduled at this time. A Mass of Christian Burial followed by inurnment will be held in New Jersey.
