Obituary of Joseph Oberlander

Joseph Oberlander, 80, of Port St. Lucie, died January 29, 2011 at Port St. Lucie Medical Center. He was born in Long Branch, NJ and had lived most of his life in Howell, NJ. He moved to Ft. Lauderdale and lived there 17 years before moving to Port St. Lucie 3 years ago. He had been a veteran of the U.S. Air Force where he was a Radar Operator in Germany during the Korean War, where he received the Medal for Humane Action and Occupation Medal Germany. Joseph was a Long Shoreman in Brooklyn before retirement. He was a member of Pine Island Ridge Golf and Country Club in Davie, and he was a lifetime member of the Ramtown, NJ Fire Department.

He is survived by his son,Joseph W. Oberlander of Port St. Lucie; daughters, Terry Joann VanHarte of Palm Bay and Sandra Lee Rousseau of Indialantic ; 2 grandchildren, Loriann Vermilyea and Timothy Ryan VanHarte; 1 great grandson, Corey Allen Vermilyea; brothers, Morris Oberlander of Weeki Wachee and Melvin Oberlander of Cleveland, GA; and sister, Bernice Porrazzo of Vienna, VA. He was preceded in death by his twin brother, David Oberlander.

Service: 2:00PM Thursday, February 3, 2011 at Forest Hills Funeral Homes, Palm City Chapel.

Interment: South Florida National Cemetery, Lake Worth, 9:30AM, Friday, February 4.
