Obituary

Joseph Ramon "Sonny" Silvestri born August 12, 1931, in Gray Court, NY, the first child of Angelo and Felina Squarcia passed away peacefully on April 2, 2017. Predeceasing him was the love of his life of 62 years, Dolores (Dee) Tamburi Silvestri who was born in Jersey City, NJ. Also two Grandsons, Joseph P. Thornton and Brandon McGeorge. Survivors include his five children; Suzanne Giovinazzo (Greg), Sandra Shapero (Brian), Sharon Materio (Phil), JR Silvestri and Patricia Kenney (Mark). Eleven grandchildren; James Wilson, Shanon Wilson, Kristin Wilson Brown, John Thornton, Josh Weiss, Jordan Weiss, Jenny Materio Mesirow, Taylor Materio Spinelli, P J Materio, Janessa Silvestri, Joseph Silvestri. Eight great grandchildren. Brothers; Michael, Louis, Richard James and Patrick and sisters; Shirley, Margie, Gina and Maryanne.
He attended Neva King Cooper Elementary, Homestead, FL, Ada Merritt Jr. High, Miami and Gesu High School, Miami, FL. At seventeed he worked at Captain Tom's Fish Market, Miami before going on the road with his father Angelo to buy a truck and sell produce from Homestead to Long Island. In 1950 he with Angelo and brother to Keyport, NJ where he worked at several jobs, mostly in construction. In 1952 he was drafted into the U.S. Army and became and Artillery instructor at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. He was Honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant in 1954. He re-entered the construction business. Within two year he acquired partner and form Molly Pitcher Homes. In 1971 he formed Concept building Industries and acted as a housing consultant to the New Jersey Housing Authority and built many Senior Citizen Housing projects in New Jersey. In 1990 he retired and moved to West Palm Beach, FL and 6 years ago to Port Saint Lucie.
Visitation: 3:30 - 5:00PM, Friday, April 7, 2017, at Forest Hills Funeral Home, Palm City Chapel
Service: immediately following at 5:00 PM
Entombment will be in Forest Hills Memorial Park.
