Obituary of Joseph Smith
Joseph Smith, 78, passed away peacefully at home on July 20th in Stuart, Florida. He was born in Gahanna, Ohio to Dorothy Folk and Howard Henry Smith and graduated from Circleville High School. He attended Miami of Ohio University before leaving to run the family-owned business, Blue Ribbon Dairy. A resident of Stuart since 1985, Joe was most well known in the community as the owner and operator of Hank's Deli. In later years he worked for Johnson Honda in Stuart.
Joe was preceded in death by his sister, Janet Heckendorn and his brother Lester Smith. He is survived by his loving wife, Nancy Smith of Stuart, his sister, Donna Salyer, daughter and son-in-law Diane and William Hill of Circleville, Ohio, daughter Brooke Smith of Brooklyn, New York, and step-daughter, Kim Grennan of Sayville, New York. He also leaves behind grandsons, Austin and Anthony, step-granddaughters Alyssa, Hannah, Madison and Ava, and many nieces and nephews.
Joe was well loved by all who knew him and will be remembered for his fun-loving and easy going nature, humility, generosity, and unwavering work ethic. He was an avid golfer and above all loved his wife, his family, his dogs and cats and his favorite football team, the Ohio State Buckeyes.
The family will receive friends at Forest Hills Funeral Homes in Palm City on Saturday, July 25th from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM. A memorial service will also be held in Ohio at a later date.
