Joseph Leo Sterett, of Palm City, FL, formerly of Pinehurst,NC,passed away on October 27, 2022 at Treasure Coast Hospice after a short hospitalization from complications due to a recent fall.

Joe was an avid golfer and lifelong devoted fan of his beloved alma mater, Notre Dame, where he graduated from after serving in the Navy. While at ND he held the Bengal Bouts boxing Championship title and loved sharing stories of his days in college with his ever-present witty humor. After college he met his wife of 69 years, Marilyn (McCormack) who was by his side every step of the way, caring for him until the very end.

Joe spent his career with Merrill Lynch while he lived in Harrington Park, NJ where he raised his family until his retirement in 1993. He then moved to Pinehurst, NC spending his early golden years on the #2 golf course, which he loved.

He was born in Brooklyn, NY in 1927, son of the late Joseph Sterett and Mary (Rossiter) Sterett.  He married Marilyn McCormack on April 25, 1953 and is survived by his wife and three children Lynn (Sterett) Gallo wife of Bob Gallo (Asheville, NC), Maureen (Sterett) Thurston wife of Geoff Thurston (Juno Beach, FL) and James  Sterett husband of Helen Jang-Sterett (Nyack, NY) He is survived by one sister, Maureen (Sterett) Raymo, wife of Chet Raymo and predeceased by his brother, Gene Sterett. He is also survived by his five loving granddaughters, Mary Thurston (San Francisco) Margaret Thurston (Austin) Caroline (Thurston) Mohni, wife of Ismael Mohni (Switzerland) Sonya Sterett (NY) and Isabel Sterett (NY)  He leaves behind many other nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday November 8th at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, 1454 SW Mapp Rd, Palm City, FL 34990 in the Sacred Heart Chapel.
