Obituary

Joseph J. Walcheski, Jr., 90, died Saturday, October 20, 2018 in Palm City, Florida.

Born in Wilkes Barre, PA and raised in Sugar Notch PA, he moved to the greater Detroit, MI area after the military.  He later moved from Livonia, MI to reside in the Stuart / Palm City area since 1982.

Joe was a veteran of World War II serving in the Pacific theater from 1946 – 1947 assigned to the ordinance battalion 192 MD in southern Japan between Kobe and Osaka.  During his service he was promoted to the rank of Corporal, Technician 5th grade.

After service in World War II, Joe studied in the building trades and was expert in masonry, brick, block, plastering, and estimating.  Joe also became very accomplished as a carpenter and electrician and practiced his trade in Michigan and later in Florida, earning the professional certification of State Certified General Contractor, and formed his own company.

Joe was an active member in the catholic faith and was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Stuart, FL.  Joe was active in parish activities in both Michigan and Florida as church usher, lector, fund raising, annual church picnics, campus beautification, CCD religious educator, and Eucharistic minister to the sick.

Joe and his wife Connie sponsored children in Africa and Honduras.

His hobbies included travel, fishing, canning and cooking, and home upgrade and restoration projects. He enjoyed time spent with his children and grandchildren.

Joe is preceded in death by his wife Constance, of 53 years. Survivors include sons, Paul Walcheski of Mount Ulla, NC; Robert Walcheski (Kelly) of Palm City; Donald Walcheski (Kristen) of Big Rapids, MI; and Thomas Walcheski (Jennifer) of Longwood, FL; three grandchildren, Timothy, Rachel and Matthew; two great grandchildren, Kylie and Jamison; brothers, John Walcheski of Redford, Michigan and Albert Walcheski of Northampton, PA.
