Clemente Hernandez, 89, passed away in Port St. Lucie, FL on Friday, June 22, 2018.
Clemente was born in Havana, Cuba to Clemente and Juana Hernandez on September 11, 1928.
He married the love of his life, Yolanda, when he was only 19 and she was 15. He went to work for the Cuban telephone company and later graduated with a PhD in Philosophy from the University of Havana.
He began a long journey in 1959; he fought against communism in Cuba which landed him in prison at "La Cabaña". In 1965 he fled the island with his wife and young daughters.
For over 30 years he dedicated his life to defeating communism by assisting the democracies of Ecuador, Uruguay, Panana, Guatemala, Brazil, Haiti and El Salvador on behalf of the US Government. He received numerous awards for his achievements in those countries.
He retired and lived in Fredericksburg, VA. In 2005 he moved to Port St. Lucie, FL.
Clemente is survived by his wife of 69 years, Yolanda; his daughters, Graciela, Yoly, Anne Marie and her husband, Angel, and Elizabeth; ten grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and 9 great-great-grandchildren; and his sister, Margarita Velazquez.
There will be a Service of Remembrance held on Friday, June 29th, 2018 at 10:00AM in Forest Hills Funeral Home Palm City.
Arrangements are entrusted to Forest Hills Funeral Home, Palm City.
