IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Kathleen M
Greene
September 20, 1936 – October 25, 2021
Kathleen Mary (McQuillan) Greene was born on September 20, 1936, to Charlotte and Gordon McQuillan, in Queens Village, NY. She was preceded by her older brother Roy McQuillan, and sister, Charlotte Miller. Kathleen attended St. Mary's Catholic High School in Manhasset, NY. It is there that she would meet her future husband of 65 years, Charles C. Greene Jr. of Bay Ridge,Brooklyn NY. Soon after meeting, he was her comfort, through the sudden loss of her father.
While Charlie served in the United States Army, Kathy worked in Manhattan as a bookkeeper. They married in 1956 and honeymooned in Canada. When Charlie's service was complete, the couple settled in Northport, NY and were very active members of St. Philip Neri Catholic Church and School. It is here that they would raise their family of 6 children; Charles Patrick of Los Angeles CA. Patricia Marie of Montauk, NY, Kevin Francis and family of Bainbridge Island, WA, Kathleen Mary of Effingham, NH, Theresa Ann of Stuart, FL and Eileen Elizabeth and family of Stuart, FL. Kathleen and her family shared a lifetime of love and laughter in the humble, always expanding, walls of their home there.
In 1985 the couple moved to Montauk, NY and Charlie built his princess her dream home. Kathy enjoyed entertaining, and she would hold countless parties throughout their years there.
It's during that time, She would begin her new role as Grandma. If Kathy Greene was a great Mom, there would be no word to describe how special a Grandma she was.
Over the years, Kathleen would be blessed with 9 grandchildren; Michael, Dede, Audrey, Richard, Benjamin, Ella, Heidi, Phoebe and Riley and 4 great-grandchildren; Charlie, Zoey, Mila and Vienna.
Kathy and Charlie were adventurers, and always loved to travel. From romantic, international getaways, to several cross country escapades, visiting their children and grandchildren they always had a story to tell when they returned.
That same adventurous nature, fueled by the love and faith in each other and God, would see them make several more moves; in 1998 to West Ossipee, NH and finally after years as snowbirds, to Stuart, FL in 2016
Wherever they lived, the couple were active members of their local Catholic Church. Kathleen served in countless ministries at every parish she was a member of. From leading crafting clubs, running monthly Bingo and holiday bazaars, to using her bookkeeping skills in the office and volunteering in the school lunchroom. She was an extraordinary minister, and served in the hospital Eucharist ministry, something she felt very blessed to be able to do. Kathleen has always had a devotion to our lady, Mary and would host rosary prayer groups with Charlie regularly.
A devoted wife and mother. Kathleen's main focus in life was her ever growing family. She was a selfless woman, thinking only of those around her.
Surrounded by love, She lived life to its fullest with joy, an infectious laugh, and always surrounded by the beautiful chaos and noise of a crowded home full of love. Kathy never passed a dance floor by in all her years. She loved nothing more than to be dancing with her friends and family. She tirelessly sewed costumes, typed homework, cooked, cleaned, served on PTA boards, volunteered at Church, made blankets for servicemen and women, and still managed to get 6 kids to the beach almost every day of the summer.
A true Irish woman, she lived life out loud, and loved fiercely. Kathy was loved by everyone that met her and she will be greatly missed.
