Kathryn Kenney Tobey

Kathryn "Kay" Kenney Tobey, 80, passed away at her home on January 17, 2020. Kay was born in Denver, Colorado to Harriet (Hurley) and Francis M. Kenney on April 18, 1939.  As a child, Kay loved horses and dogs, and enjoyed skiing and competitive swimming. After graduating from high school, Kay attended Vassar College.

Kay was a resident of the Stuart area for over 25 years. Kay fought for a safe, healthy and ecologically-balanced St. Lucie River Estuary and Indian River Lagoon while a member of the Rivers Coalition. She was a life-long animal lover and advocate, and provided a loving home for many dogs and cats over her lifetime. She also assisted with the rescue of many pets.

Kay was preceded in death by her husband, Albert K. Tobey, daughter Deborah Dee, and granddaughter, Emily E. Dee. Kay is survived by her brothers Patrick F. (Jennifer) Kenney and Timothy E. Kenney; three children Sean M. Dee, Kathleen Dee Deveau, and Leslie A. Dee; four step-children Barbara Mulcahy, Lyn Cortely, Thomas "Tom" Tobey and Henry "Ty" Tobey; and six grandchildren Caytlyn, Brenna, Andrew, Jared, Kathleen and Elizabeth.

Viewing will be at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 21, 2020, at Forest Hills Palm City Chapel (2001 SW Murph Rd., Palm City, FL 34990) followed by a funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church.

Kay will be buried alongside her parents, daughter, and other family members at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Colorado. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Humane Society of the Treasure Coast.
