IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Kathy Mae
Durkee
July 19, 1944 – May 26, 2022
On Thursday, May 26th, the world lost a loving and generous woman. Kathy Coole Durkee, of Palm City, passed away at Treasure Coast Hospice in Stuart. She was born in Waco, Texas on July 19, 1944 to Jim and Elaine Coole.
Her family later moved to Miami, Florida where she grew up, went to high school and got married. In 1971, she relocated to Martin County to plant her roots with her family. Kathy leaves behind many people to mourn her loss and cherish the time
they spent with her.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Stephen E. Durkee, her father, James L. Coole and her mother, Elaine S. Coole. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Deanne and Jim Cox of Cumming, Georgia; Daughter, Melissa Durkee of Palm City, Florida; son and
daughter-in-law, Stephen Durkee Jr., and Adriana Ruiz; Grandchildren, Courtney and Cameron Cox of Cumming, Georgia; Austin and Allyson Beert of Palm City, Florida; Dylan and Axel Durkee of Delray Beach, Florida; and her brother, Gary J. Coole of Kemah, Texas.
Kathy worked as an administrator for Durkee Drywall and then later for Steve Durkee Construction totaling over 20 years of service. After her husband's passing, she worked for Crystal Lake Elementary for 15 years as the assistant manager of the after-school program.
Kathy continued to be very involved in her church, Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Palm City. One of her proudest moments was spending the week at bible camp with four of her grandchildren. In addition, she also attended a mission trip to Haiti with Stuart Congressional
Church. Kathy loved helping others who had very little and this trip made her heart feel full with lasting memories of the journey.
Services are private, but please take a moment to tell a special story about her. We are asking that no flowers are sent, but maybe you would like to make a donation to Treasure Coast Hospice, an Alzheimer research charity of your choice or maybe just pass along an act of
kindness to another person in her name.
