Obituary of Laura Kolstad

Laura Mead King, born July 31, 1922, in Orange, New Jersey to Laura Anna Mead King and Alexander Henderson King of South Orange, died February 4, 2011 in Palm City, FL. Married David Daggett of New Haven, CT, June 30, 1944 at Hartford, CT, deceased July 23, 1974 in Falmouth, Mass. Married Clayton Andrew Kolstad of Branford, CT, August 28, 1976, deceased May 22, 2005 in Palm City. She is survived by a son, Alexander King Daggett; a son David Lewis Daggett IV who predeceased her; a grandson, John Alexander Daggett and a great-grandson, Cameron Alexander Daggett.

She was a "life-long", ardent, able and salty sailor, cruiser and racer as either crew or skipper, both bay and blue water. She helped found the Bullseye Squadron at Ocean Reef Club, Key Largo, FL. She founded the resident library at Sandhill Cove, Palm City, Florida as well as the Croquet Club there. In Connecticut, she was a successful real estate agent with the Seabury Group in New Haven, CT on the shoreline for many years. She wrote for, contributed to, and edited for the Shore Line Times. She was active in the Junior League of New Haven and served as its president in the 1960's.

She graduated from Vassar College, Poughkeepsie, New York in 1944. Member of the Colonial Dames in the State of Connecticut. Direct descendant of Governor William Bradford, first governor and historian of the Plymouth Colony, Mass. and a niece of Edna Mead, a poet published often in the New York Times and James O. Spearing, the New York Times first automobile editor in the 1930's.

Burial will be in New Haven City Burial Ground - Grove Street Cemetery in New Haven.
