August 15, 1945 – March 11, 2021

Orth, Laurie S., 75, of Palm City, FL passed in peace on March 11, 2021. Laurie will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Laurie was born in Hartford, CT to George and Jane Smith on August 15, 1945. She relocated to Palm City from Mendham, NJ in 2001 after her youngest child graduated from high school.

Laurie was a loving sister, wife, mother, aunt, and grandmother. She enjoyed traveling, cooking, and knitting. A proud graduate of Elmira College in 1967 she always enjoyed sharing stories of her college exploits. She had many fond memories of her world travels from her childhood and later from many trips to St. Croix and Scotland. She enjoyed living close to New York City for so many years and relished going into the city to see a show or visit the Rockefeller Christmas tree around the holidays. She was known for keeping a stocked kitchen and welcoming all who came through the door. Her family will greatly miss her Buckeyes, a special peanut butter and chocolate treat that she learned to make while living in Mansfield, OH. Once Laurie relocated to Florida, she could often be found enjoying golf with the Ladies' 9 Hole Group of Monarch Country Club or with her husband for their regular weekend golf date. She cared deeply for her family and was very grateful that they were able to spend Christmas with her this past year after a prolonged separation. Laurie had a huge heart for dogs and never was without a dog in her home until very recently.

Laurie was preceded in death by her loving husband of 53 years, David Orth.  She was also preceded in death by her son, George Orth of Landing, NJ. She is survived and remembered by daughter, Megan Diffenderfer of Baltimore, MD; son, Charlie Orth of Hawaii; sister, Kathy Atherton of Palm City and 5 grandchildren; Alice, Gracie, Leah, Samantha and Alex.

The family has chosen to have no service at this time.
