Lawrence C. McNeill
May 18th, 1937- December 5th, 2023

Lawrence C. McNeill 86, husband to Joanne, and father to Larry and Brien, passed away peacefully on December 5, 2023. He was surrounded by his loving family and recounting memories of his life. Below is a snapshot of a life lived to the fullest.

Lawrence Charles McNeill (Larry) was born in New York City on May 18, 1937, to Lawrence and Mary McNeill. Larry was one of 8 children, attended La Salle High School and proudly served in the United States Navy (1954-58) on the USS Canberra. After serving his country ,
Larry found his calling on the New York City Fire Department (FDNY) in 1959 and served the City of New York with passion and immeasurable pride.

The story really begins in the Fall of 1954 when he met and fell in love with Joanne O'Brien from the Inwood area of NYC. They met as teenagers and immediately became high school sweethearts. After serving his country for four years, Larry left the Navy on 4/11/58 and married
the love of his life, Joanne in September of 1958. In short succession his children Lawrence (1962) and Brien (1965) were born. They made their
home on Elwood Street in Manhattan and Larry made the short commute to Ladder 40 on 125th St in Harlem. He became a Lieutenant in the FDNY and loved working at what later became "Life begins at 40" ! Until this day they would tell "fire stories" and memorable times they spent
together. He loved to be with his Ladder 40 brothers which was eventually served by multi generational family members of smoke eaters who wanted to follow in their father's footsteps.

Larry and Joanne left their residence in Manhattan to settle in the suburb of Centereach, Long Island. This became their home for ten years before ultimately raising their sons in Smithtown, Long Island for another ten years. Larry and Joanne moved to Port St Lucie once their children
were grown and married and ultimately settled in Stuart, Florida among many old friends and a remarkable number of new friends! Magnanimous and charismatic are not big enough words to describe the character that was Larry McNeill. He loved the company of family and friends and lit up every room with laughter and stories from his exciting time as a FDNY Fireman.

Larry is survived by his soulmate Joanne, his sister Maureen, son Lawrence and wife JoAnn McNeill, predeceased by his loving son Brien, and is also survived by his adoring grandkids Madison, Cassidy, Melanie, Lauren, Austin and Carly.

Larry was a lifelong member of the Catholic Church and an outstanding man of Faith. He left this world peacefully with family gathered around and knowing his firefighting friends were with him.
