Obituary

Leonard Friedman, 85, of Hobe Sound, Florida, passed away surrounded by his loving family and friends on October 9th, 2023. He was born December 31, 1937, in Winchester, Kentucky to Louis Friedman and Ida Cohn Friedman. An only child, he moved with his parents to Bainbridge, Georgia and later to Augusta, Georgia where he attended Richmond Academy. He graduated from the University of Georgia with a degree in pharmacy in 1960. While there, he was a member of Alpha Epsilon Pi fraternity and several academic societies. He remained a fervent supporter of the Georgia Bulldogs his entire life and enjoyed watching them win three national championships, as well as watching them beat the pants off the Kentucky Wildcats on October 7th.

Len worked in retail pharmacy for 10 years before becoming a medical representative for Abbott Laboratories. He expanded Abbott's markets in south Florida for many years before retiring early to Hobe Sound. While there, he continued to donate his time for many years as a volunteer pharmacist.

Len was a longtime Master Mason and member of the Acacia Lodge and of the Sons of the American Legion. He was raised in the Jewish faith and most recently attended Temple Beth David in Jupiter.

Also known as Lenny to many of his friends, he was an avid sports enthusiast and led an active sporting lifestyle in his younger days, enjoying boating and fishing, as well as golf and tennis as a member of Lost Lake Country Club. For many years, he spent summers in the North Carolina mountains and also traveled widely across the United States and abroad.

Len was married for 38 years to his beloved Peachie, who predeceased him in 2012. He leaves behind his cherished family including his daughter, Lisa Miriam Friedman York of Los Angeles, California, son Marc Harris Friedman and his wife Royceann Spillers Friedman of Savannah, Georgia, and son Alex Solomon Friedman, also of Savannah, as well as their mother, Jan VandenBulck; stepdaughter Kathleen Comnick of Inverness, Florida; grandchildren Solomon Harris Friedman, Jacob Wellesley Friedman, Felix Louis Friedman, Anna Sophia Friedman, and Maya Arwen York; cousins Jerald Cohn, Sanford Cohn, Gerald Siegel, and Leon Siegel; and dear friends Caroline Thiem and Peter Morello, whose help and support have been invaluable these last few months.

The funeral service will be held graveside at Forest Hills in Palm City at 11:00am Thursday, October 12, 2023 with Rabbi Bruce Benson officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Treasure Coast Hospice, the University of Georgia or a charity of your choice.
