Obituary of Lorraine Grant

Lorraine Morgan Grant left us all too soon on Wednesday, June 6, 2012 after a two year battle with lung cancer. Born and raised in Columbus, Ohio, Lorraine was the 2nd of 4 children. Her childhood shaped who she was and instilled values of tolerance, acceptance and care for others.

She attended North High School where both she and Bill met and graduated in 1962. It wasn't until after high school they began dating and were married in September 1967 in Columbus, Ohio. As a newly married couple, they lived in Selma Alabama while Bill was in pilot training at Craig Air Force Base, later moving to Washington State where their first daughter was born.

They alternated living in Florida and Colorado over the next 40 years and have been back in South Florida for the past 7.

She loved her family and friends, adored her grandchildren and had an endearing relationship with her husband. She was compassionate, supportive, nurturing, always one to lend a helping hand and always putting others first. Her special bridge buddy Pat nicknamed her Barnabas, "The Encourager" which captures the essence of Lorraine. She was also affectionately referred to as "The Sergeant" by her friends and coworkers at Merrill Lynch where she worked as a real estate broker in the late 80's.

Lorraine had a passion for bridge and that passion was often the sole motivator for getting out of bed on those difficult days throughout her cancer treatment. Courageous and steadfast in her fight against cancer, she fought until the end. The week before her passing she was walking the halls of the hospital and said, "Just try to stop me!" referencing the cancer and her doctors.

She is survived by her husband Bill Grant, daughters Marnye and Megan, son-in-laws Jeff and Mark, grandchildren Katie and Grace, her siblings, Jerry, Kay and Peggy and so many wonderful friends with whom she cherished. We will miss everything about her and treasure the memories we shared for a lifetime.
