Obituary

Lucille M Peck, 99, of Tequesta, Fla, died on Friday, June 6, 2025, in hospice care at Palm Beach Gardens Hospital of age-related causes, with her son by her side.

She was born in Maspeth, N.Y., to Margaret and Michael Gentile on Feb. 1, 1926. She grew up there and attended Newtown High School, then enrolled in nurses' training to become a Registered Nurse at Adelphi University, Garden City, N.Y. as a member of the United States Cadet Nurse Corps during World War II.

In her career as a registered nurse, she served as a hospital nurse, a doctors' office nurse, and a school nurse.

She married her dear late husband of 47 years, Edwin D Peck, Jr., in 1947 at her family church of St. Stanislaus Kostka in Maspeth, followed by a breakfast reception in the LaGuardia Room of LaGuardia Airport.

She and Edwin raised two children, a daughter and a son Edwin, at their home on Toronto Ave. in Massapequa, N.Y.
In 1977, they retired to Hobe Sound, Fla., to their home on S.E. Colony St. Lucille's beloved husband died in 1994, and in 2009 she moved to her current home on Garden St. in Tequesta, Fla. where she has lived for the past 16 years.

Lucille was a member of Saint Christopher's parish in Hobe Sound, where she served as an Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist in church and at The Manors, where she brought Holy Communion to the patients in nursing care. She also served on the Hospitality Team for Sundays welcoming parishioners for fellowship and refreshments after Mass.

When she moved to Tequesta, she attended Mass at St Ignatius Loyola Cathedral, serving as an Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist and as a helper in the parish "Outreach" food pantry for those in need.

In these later years, she was a weekly communicant at St Edward's Basilica in Palm Beach with her son.

She was an active walker, swimmer, crafter, water colorist, and licensed realtor, as well as a devoted nurse to her husband, children, and neighbors.

In the tributes that poured in from family and friends after her death, she was admired as a kind, sweet, loving, lovely lady, strong and full of life, faith-filled, getting the most out of life, whose life was an honor to be part of, a model for aging not just gracefully but also energetically.

Lucille was predeceased by her husband Edwin; her parents Margaret and Michael Gentile; her brother Warren Gentile, his wife Pauline, and their son Joe; her aunts Belle and Grace; her cousins Junior, Kenneth (and Elaine), Donald (and Bridgette) O'Brien; Grace Valentine; Bill Fox; her dear friends Rose, Al, Donna, Albert Warg and Margaret Tigue, all loved ones she has been reunited with in heaven.

She is survived by her daughter; her son Edwin; her nephew and his wife Michael and Jan Gentile; her nephews Paul, Pat, Tom, and Jim Gentile; her cousins Todd O'Brien and Maureen Faircloth; her dear friends Brian, Tanya, Kylee, Aidan, and Kassidy McDonald; and Gregory Warg, who was to her another son, and his wife Bonnie, her dear friend.

Her funeral will be held on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, at St. Christopher's Church in Hobe Sound, Fla. 10 a.m. Visitation, 11 a.m. Holy Mass of Christian Burial, 12:45 p.m. Interment at Forest Hills Memorial Cemetery, Palm City, Fla.

Memorial donations may be made to the St. Francis Breadline, 144 West 32nd St., New York, N.Y. 10001-3202. ( www.stfrancisbreadline.org ), a cause dear to Lucille, to which her friend Edward Kissling made frequent donations in her honor.

"Each day since 1930, hundreds of homeless people line up to receive what may be their only meal for the day at the St. Francis Breadline, supported solely by donations from people of generous heart and spirit."
