Luz Selenia Acosta, a faithful servant of our Lord Jesus Christ, passed away peacefully on July 15, 2026, with her loving family by her side. Born on December 14, 1941, in Santurce, Puerto Rico, she was the beloved daughter of the late David Acosta and Ramona Villegas.

A woman of remarkable intellect and dedication, Luz earned a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry and a Master of Science in Nutrition from the University of Puerto Rico. After moving to Florida with her son, she worked as a Chemist for the State of Florida and continued her academic pursuits, earning a Master of Science in Chemistry from the University of Central Florida (UCF).

Luz’s life was guided by an unwavering faith. She was an active member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Kissimmee, Florida, where she had the beautiful and sacred blessing of serving her church as a Eucharistic Minister. Alongside her mother, Ramona, and her church group, she had the joy of traveling to the Holy Land, Italy, Greece, and abroad. In 2013, she moved to Palm City, Florida, to be close to her son and his family. There, she became a member of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in Fort Pierce, where she was Chrismated and embraced life as an Orthodox Christian.

Luz was the oldest of five siblings and was predeceased by her brother, David. She is survived by her son, Orlando; her daughter-in-law, Harriet; her granddaughters, Athená and Sophia; and her great-granddaughter, Eleni. She is also survived by her siblings, Nelia (and her husband, Francisco Perez), Carlos Dario, and Horacio Juan; her nieces, Jezabel, Neila, Carolys, Mercy, and Rosebelys; and her nephews, David, Carlos, and Dario.

Beyond her outstanding professional and spiritual achievements, Luz excelled surpassingly as a mother, aunt, sister, mother-in-law, grandmother, daughter, and friend. She was deeply loved by everyone who had the privilege of knowing her, and to say she will be missed is a gross understatement. Her passing leaves an irreplaceable void, but her legacy reminds us to honor her memory by loving our own families, prioritizing relationships, and remembering that life is too short to neglect the only things that truly matter. While her family carries great sorrow, they rest easy knowing she has eternal life in Heaven.

A viewing will be held on Wednesday, July 22 from 10-11 a.m. followed by the Funeral Service at ST Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church with burial immediately following at Forest Hills Memorial Park.

Luz Selenia Acosta, una fiel sierva de nuestro Señor Jesucristo, falleció en paz el 15 de julio de 2026, con su amada familia a su lado. Nacida el 14 de diciembre de 1941 en Santurce, Puerto Rico, fue la adorada hija de los difuntos David Acosta y Ramona Villegas.

Una mujer de notable intelecto y dedicación, Luz obtuvo un Bachiller en Ciencias en Química y una Maestría en Nutrición de la Universidad de Puerto Rico. Después de mudarse a Florida con su hijo, trabajó como química para el Estado de Florida y continuó sus estudios académicos, obteniendo una Maestría en Química de la Universidad de Florida Central (UCF).

La vida de Luz estuvo guiada por una fe inquebrantable. Fue un miembro activo de la Iglesia Católica Holy Redeemer en Kissimmee, Florida, donde tuvo la hermosa y sagrada bendición de servir a su iglesia como Ministra de la Eucaristía. Junto a su madre, Ramona, y su grupo de la iglesia, tuvo la alegría de viajar a Tierra Santa, Italia, Grecia y el extranjero. En 2013, se mudó a Palm City, Florida, para estar cerca de su hijo y su familia. Allí, se convirtió en miembro de la Iglesia Ortodoxa Griega St. Nicholas en Fort Pierce, donde recibió la Crismación y abrazó la vida como Cristiana Ortodoxa.

Luz era la mayor de cinco hermanos y le precedió en la muerte su hermano, David. Le sobreviven su hijo, Orlando; su nuera, Harriet; sus nietas, Athená y Sophia; y su bisnieta, Eleni. También le sobreviven sus hermanos, Nelia (y su esposo, Francisco Pérez), Carlos Darío y Horacio Juan; sus sobrinas, Jezabel, Neila, Carolys, Mercy y Rosebelys; y sus sobrinos, David, Carlos y Darío.

Más allá de sus destacados logros profesionales y espirituales, Luz sobresalió de manera insuperable como madre, tía, hermana, suegra, abuela, hija y amiga. Fue profundamente amada por todos los que tuvieron el privilegio de conocerla, y decir que se le extrañará es quedarse muy corto. Su partida deja un vacío insustituible, pero su legado nos recuerda honrar su memoria amando a nuestras propias familias, valorando las relaciones y recordando que la vida es demasiado corta para descuidar las únicas cosas que realmente importan. Aunque su familia lleva un gran dolor, descansan tranquilos sabiendo que ella tiene vida eterna en el Cielo.

El velorio se llevará a cabo el miércoles 22 de julio de 10:00 a 11:00 a. m., seguido por el Servicio Funerario en la Iglesia Ortodoxa Griega ST Nicholas, con el sepelio inmediatamente después en Forest Hills Memorial Park.
