M. Thomas Stone died August 20, 2015 at Treasure Coast Hospice in Stuart, FL.
Born July 4, 1930 in Indianapolis, Indiana, Tom's family moved to West Palm Beach when he was in high school. He attended Palm Beach High School and Palm Beach Community College before becoming a licensed contractor. He was the founder and President of Allied Building Specialties, a glass and door subcontracting company, which was a fixture in the construction industry for over 30 years.
Tom was a Councilman for the City of Palm Springs, on the Board of Directors of the Forest Hill Branch of Flagler National Bank, and was a member of many civic organizations, including the Jaycees, the Associated General Contractors and he was a founding member of the Junto Chapter of West Palm Beach. An avid golfer, he was an active member of several golf club communities: Mayacoo Lakes in West Palm Beach, FL, Wildcat Cliffs in Highlands, NC (Past President), and Piper's Landing in Palm City, FL (Past President). However, he was never happier than on his boat in the Keys or crossing to the Bahamas on a clear day when the yellowtail snapper were biting. He leaves behind 85 years of of wonderful memories, family and friends.
Tom is survived by his wife of 40 years, Harriet Gove Stone; children Bill Stone (Joyce), Melissa Stone (Gordon), Paula Tighe (Molly), and John Tighe, Jr.; grandchildren Michael Stone (Janet), Jennifer Stone, Susannah Tighe, and John Tighe III; and great-grandchild, Alexandra.
Tom was a member of St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Stuart, FL where services will be held on September 26th, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. (623 S.E. Ocean Blvd., Stuart, FL).
In lieu of flowers, if you would like to make a memorial contribution, the family suggests it be made to St. Mary's Episcopal Church or Treasure Coast Hospice where Tom received exceptional care during his final days.
