Mabel Stewart, 87, of Stuart, Florida, passed away on March 9, 2018 at her home.
Born on Waggoner Ranch in Crowell, TX on May 16, 1930. The Waggoner Ranch is one of the 20 largest ranches in the United States. She and her husband Tom, have been residents of Stuart since 1994, when they moved here from Pennsylvania.
She was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church of Stuart. For years, she sang in the choir and in ensembles, and was a faithful member of the Tom Snipes Senior Sunday School class. Mabel was a lay scholar of the Holy Scripture, and a loving and doting mother and grandmother. She and Tom were avid travelers and visited over 35 countries, throughout the world. She was a "measuring stick," for the rest of the family to live up to, having been the family matriarch for many, many years.
Survivors include her husband, Thomas James Steward, son, James Thomas Stewart of West Palm Beach, FL, her daughter, Julie Estelle Stewart Fellenz of York, SC, her grandchildren, Courtney, Jimmy, Katie, and Seth and great grandchildren, Andrew and Lucy; her brother, Bobby Bell, Jr (Amy) of Karnack, TX; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, friends and neighbors. She was predeceased by daughter Amy Denise Stewart, her parents, Robert Mayfield Bell and Gertrude Elizabeth Kendall Lott, and her sisters Alice Bell Glascock and Margaret Bell Robertson
Visitation will be from 12:25 to 1 PM on Monday, March 12, 2018 at the First Baptist Church of Stuart, with a service at 1:00 PM. Interment will follow in Forest Hills Memorial Park, Palm City, Florida. Presiders at the services are, the Rev. Nick Bennett, the Rev. Dr. Suzi Robertson and Mr. Tom Snipes.
The family graciously thanks Treasure Coast Hospice, Champion Healthcare and Renee Richie and Gloria Gosman, for all of their tender loving care over the many years Mabel was ill. The family also gives thanks for their neighbors, their many friends, their church family and clergy.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to the 1 st Baptist Church of Stuart in Mabel's name.
