Marcelina Suarez Lugo, 86 of Ceiba, Puerto Rico (formerly of Port St. Lucie, FL) passed away on April 11, 2018. She was born on May 25, 1931 in Patillas, Puerto Rico, where she attended school and came to New York at 17 years of age. She married her late husband of 48 years, Bolivar Lugo on July 30, 1949.
Marcelina worked as a seamstress. She was a member of Saint John the Baptist RCC, St. Malachy's RCC, St. Elizabeth Seaton RCC and Holy Family RCC. She participated in several organizations; President of Sacred Heart of Jesus, Legion of Mary, Curslillo de Christiandad, Encuentro Matrimonial and various prayer groups. Marcelina won the Mother of the Year award in 1968 in New York. She was passionate about crocheting, cooking and praying.
She is survived by her children Bolivar Lugo Jr. (Janet), Daniel Lugo (Emyee), Jeanette Lugo Sosa (Jose), Mildred Lugo A. Ferrara, Lillian Lugo Avila (Edwin), Nancy Lugo Serrano (Ruben) and Betsy Lugo (Lorenzo); sister Carmen Suarez Figueroa and brother Hector Pena, and by 12 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Visitation will take place on Thursday, April 19 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Forest Hills Funeral Home in Palm City, FL. A mass of Christian burial will take place on Friday, April 20, 2018 at 10:00 am at Holy Family Church in Port St. Lucie, FL.
